2 Dental Rinses To Help Promote Healing After Dental Implant Surgery

Dentist Blog

A tooth can fall out of place due to a number of reasons, including tooth decay and trauma. When this happens, your dentist will install a dental implant the looks and feels just like your former tooth. The procedure can take place in either one or two steps. How well the dental implant performs depends on how well the implant is cared for after surgery. Poor dental care and infection can cause a dental implant to fail. If this happens, then your dentist will need to replace the implant. As a result, it is important to take care of your dental implant immediately after surgery in order to promote healing. Luckily, there are a few dental rinses you can use in order to do this.

Horsetail Rinse

Horsetail contains a variety of anti-inflammatory properties that make it effective for treating open wounds and internal conditions. The herb can be turned into a rinse in order to treat inflammation after surgery and promote a healthy mouth. A horsetail rinse can be created by taking a handful of fresh horsetail and placing it into a cup of hot water. Allow the horsetail to steep for several minutes until the water is no longer clear. Add a few drops of lemon juice for freshness and use the rinse to cleanse your mouth. Work the rinse around the corners of your mouth and make sure to concentrate around your dental implant. Leave the rinse in your mouth for a few minutes before spitting. Using this rinse daily will help to keep your dental implants healthy.

Neem and Peppermint Rinse

Neem is often sought after for its antibacterial properties. The herb is included in mouthwashes because it can prevent plaque. The buildup of bacteria and plaque around the dental implant is a common reason why many implants fail. In addition, peppermint contains antibacterial properties that are used to treat anything from sickness to infected wounds. Together the two herbs can be used to create a powerful dental rinse that will keep your dental implant healthy. Start by adding fresh neem and peppermint to a small pot of water. Allow the water to boil, then turn it down to low heat. Leave it on the stove for a few minutes, then remove it. Strain the neem and peppermint from the mixture. Once the mixture cools, use it to clean around your teeth and gums.

Dental implants can last for many years as long as they are taken care of. Use these dental rinses to promote the health of your dental implants immediately after surgery. Contact a practice, such as the Dental Services Of Rochester, for more information.

Think Twice Before Rationing That Halloween Candy

Halloween is a holiday that my children love, and telling them they can't go door-to-door collecting candy would break their hearts. This led me to allowing them to collect candy on the holiday, then rationing it out to them every day instead of letting them gobble it up in just a few days. I always thought this was better for them, but my dentist told me this could be the reason why their February dental check-ups were always their worst ones. Daily candy consumption was taking a toll on their teeth. I started a new tradition of letting them indulge for two days, then giving them the option to swap the rest with me in exchange for a new toy. They never pass on the opportunity for a new toy. I created this blog to encourage other parents find similar tactics to keep their children's teeth healthy after Halloween.
