3 Types Of Dental Crowns You May Want To Consider

Dentist Blog

Once your dentist has found that the placement of a dental crown is in your best interest, it is time to start thinking about the various types of materials that can be used for the creation of your crown. Three of the main types include full porcelain, gold, and porcelain fused to the gold. To help you determine which is the best option for your dental needs, you will want to review the following benefits of each one.

Full Porcelain

This is a very common type of material used for dental crowns, especially when the tooth is one that is in the smile line. This means when you smile big, it is a tooth that can be easily seen. One major benefit to this is that the color can be made to closer resemble the surrounding teeth in an attempt to make it appear as though you have not had any dental work done. Also, many people have found that this material does not conduct extreme cold or heat, so you will not have to worry as much about dealing with temperature sensitivity.

Gold

While you can select the gold dental crowns for a tooth that is in your smile line, it is more common to find this towards the back of the mouth where it is not easily seen. This is generally because it is a dead giveaway that you have a dental crown and you may not want everyone to know that. However, there are many benefits to the gold crowns. Gold is very durable and it will last for a very long time. This is important if you want your dental crown to last as long as possible. Also, it is very delicate to the opposing teeth, so you will not have to worry about damages if you happen to be someone that clenches or grinds their teeth a lot while sleeping.

Porcelain Over Gold

This is an excellent option for those who want the strength and security of the gold, but the cosmetic look of the porcelain. Basically, it is like having the best of both worlds. Should some of the porcelain chip off over time, the gold will still remain in place, which ensures that the tooth is well protected.

Now that you have a better understanding of the previously mentioned types of dental crowns, you will have a much easier time making the decision that best suits your needs. All you need to do now is to discuss this with a dentist, such as at Demianko Dental Care, so you can get your dental crown appointment scheduled.

Think Twice Before Rationing That Halloween Candy

Halloween is a holiday that my children love, and telling them they can't go door-to-door collecting candy would break their hearts. This led me to allowing them to collect candy on the holiday, then rationing it out to them every day instead of letting them gobble it up in just a few days. I always thought this was better for them, but my dentist told me this could be the reason why their February dental check-ups were always their worst ones. Daily candy consumption was taking a toll on their teeth. I started a new tradition of letting them indulge for two days, then giving them the option to swap the rest with me in exchange for a new toy. They never pass on the opportunity for a new toy. I created this blog to encourage other parents find similar tactics to keep their children's teeth healthy after Halloween.
