Many people lose teeth due to one reason or another. You may have suffered an injury to the mouth or you may have had teeth removed due to decay or gum disease. Either way, you will want to restore your smile. Fortunately, dentures are a great way to ensure you have a complete set of teeth, improving your smile's look and ability to eat and speak clearly. If you are new to wearing dentures, help is available. These tips will help you adjust to your new dentures with ease.
Be Patient
Dentures will be a foreign object in your mouth, so you need to be patient while your mouth and your speaking/chewing habits adjust.
Throughout the first few days, you may experience difficulty chewing and speaking. In some instances, the dentures may even move and shift around in your mouth. It is normal to experience light swelling and irritation during the first few days of wearing dentures, as well.
Do not get frustrated or anxious. Continue to wear your dentures, knowing they will eventually become a comfortable part of your smile.
Consult Dentist
As you start wearing the dentures, your mouth and jaw will change accordingly to adjust to your new smile. Because of these changes, your dentures may not fit as securely as you want. Therefore, you should schedule routine checkups with your dentist so adjustments to the dentures can be made.
It is perfectly normal to visit your dentist a few times within the first few weeks of wearing your dentures. These visits are a good time for your dentist to make the denture adjustments, but they are also useful for addressing questions and concerns you may have regarding your new smile and how to care for your new dentures.
Eat Right
Dentures do help restore your smile, but they are not meant to crunch down on every food that you are accustomed to eating. When you get your dentures, you will need to make some changes to your diet.
Stock up on soft foods that are easy to eat and drink, which will be helpful during the first few days of wearing your dentures. Consider yogurts, soups, and eggs while your mouth adjusts to the dentures.
Even once you adjust, you will not be able to eat hard foods, such as nuts or corn on the cob. Avoid these foods to ensure you do not damage your dentures.
Wearing dentures can be beneficial to your appearance and your overall health and wellness. This guide will help you adjust to your new smile. Contact a service, like Cape Dental Care, for more help.

Halloween is a holiday that my children love, and telling them they can't go door-to-door collecting candy would break their hearts. This led me to allowing them to collect candy on the holiday, then rationing it out to them every day instead of letting them gobble it up in just a few days. I always thought this was better for them, but my dentist told me this could be the reason why their February dental check-ups were always their worst ones. Daily candy consumption was taking a toll on their teeth. I started a new tradition of letting them indulge for two days, then giving them the option to swap the rest with me in exchange for a new toy. They never pass on the opportunity for a new toy. I created this blog to encourage other parents find similar tactics to keep their children's teeth healthy after Halloween.
