If you find out that you need to get a root canal, you may be a little bit worried about having to undergo oral surgery. Similar to filling cavities, root canal procedures are an important thing to have done. To help you feel a little bit more assured about getting a root canal, this article will list a few reasons why you should be their number one fan.
Pain Isn't the Name of the Root Canal Game
The great thing about root canals is that there isn't any pain. So, even if you have irrational nightmares about sitting in your dentist's chair wondering what is going to happen, you don't have to worry about it. To start the process out, your doctor will inject a local anesthetic into your mouth. Once that has kicked in, your dentist may use some more anaesthesia to help you feel even better.
It Saves You From Looking Like a Pirate
Walking around with a mouth full of gold or with missing teeth may have been your fantasy when you were a kid, but as an adult, that's probably not something you want. The whole goal of a root canal is to preserve your natural tooth so that you don't have to get an artificial one. During the root canal, your dentist will go underneath your gums and get rid of the infected pulp and bacteria. Usually after all of this has been removed, your tooth should be saved.
It's Fast as Fast Can Be
Another great benefit of getting a new root canal is that it's a relatively fast procedure that can usually be done in about 90 minutes. Although you can go back to work after you get a root canal done, it's not always recommended if you are still feeling woozy from your anaesthesia or if you have a lot of swelling.
Speedy Recovery
Nobody wants to be cooped up in bed all day recovering from an oral procedure. When you get a root canal done, you won't have to worry about a lengthy recovery. Although your gums around your tooth may be sore for a couple of days, you should be able to get back to your routine in just a day or two. To help get rid of pain and swelling, try taking an NSAID like Ibuprofen.

Halloween is a holiday that my children love, and telling them they can't go door-to-door collecting candy would break their hearts. This led me to allowing them to collect candy on the holiday, then rationing it out to them every day instead of letting them gobble it up in just a few days. I always thought this was better for them, but my dentist told me this could be the reason why their February dental check-ups were always their worst ones. Daily candy consumption was taking a toll on their teeth. I started a new tradition of letting them indulge for two days, then giving them the option to swap the rest with me in exchange for a new toy. They never pass on the opportunity for a new toy. I created this blog to encourage other parents find similar tactics to keep their children's teeth healthy after Halloween.
