If you need to get braces to make corrections to your teeth, you may be hesitant to move forward due to the adjustments that need to be made. You likely have heard about how braces need to be adjusted over time to help with the process of straightening your teeth with great results. Here is what you should expect with the adjustments to traditional and Invisalign braces.
Traditional Braces Adjustments
Anybody that has metal braces on their teeth will need to return to their orthodontist to have adjustments made to the wires and brackets. More tension can be put on the wires in order to move the teeth into the correct place by pushing them in the proper direction. The wires are carefully adjusted to make sure that they slowly move into the correct position without causing your mouth to feel too sore during the process.
Invisalign Braces Adjustments
Invisalign braces will work quite a bit differently than their traditional metal counterparts would. Instead of using metal brackets that attach to your teeth, Invisalign uses clear plastic trays that fit over your teeth and are completely removable when necessary. The adjustment process for Invisalign is much easier, which may make Invisalign more appealing to you.
You are given a series of trays that you are supposed to swap out every few weeks, which gradually puts pressure on the teeth to move them in the right direction. Each new tray will have a snug fit at first so that the teeth can continue to be shifted, but each tray will gradually seem to loosen over time as your teeth move into place.
You'll still need to visit a dentist to verify that the adjustments are working properly. The dentist will make sure that you are on the right track to having straight teeth in the future, and they will have new Invisalign trays created, if necessary.
Comfort
One thing to keep in mind is that Invisalign allows you to move at a comfortable pace with making adjustments. You can have your dentist make additional aligning trays so that the adjustment process is gradual. It may take longer to get your teeth looking straight, but it will be a more comfortable journey to get there.
Meanwhile, traditional braces will typically be installed with a goal of when they will be removed. Adjustments are made according to those goals, which may not always be comfortable for you. Traditional braces cause you to lack the option of a more comfortable treatment.

Halloween is a holiday that my children love, and telling them they can't go door-to-door collecting candy would break their hearts. This led me to allowing them to collect candy on the holiday, then rationing it out to them every day instead of letting them gobble it up in just a few days. I always thought this was better for them, but my dentist told me this could be the reason why their February dental check-ups were always their worst ones. Daily candy consumption was taking a toll on their teeth. I started a new tradition of letting them indulge for two days, then giving them the option to swap the rest with me in exchange for a new toy. They never pass on the opportunity for a new toy. I created this blog to encourage other parents find similar tactics to keep their children's teeth healthy after Halloween.
